We hit the ground running bright and early and managed to get in all the rides that day by using our Fast Passes wisely. Both California Adventure and Disneyland were packed. This was no surprise, but it is a bit amazing when you see it in person, WOW! The heat was incredible and I don't mean that in a good way! We walked out of our hotel room first thing in the morning and began to sweat buckets instantly. It was seriously, SO HOT! It doesn't really help things to stand in line for 12 hours in the blazing sun. My kids and Mitch turned brown on this vacation, me well you know... bright red and then back to white.
Woody was our first character we saw. Lucy wanted NOTHING to do with him and started screaming immediately. There was the cutest handicap boy next to us in line to meet Woody and Jessie. He was probably in his late teens/ early 20s and he kept saying over and over to his dad "Look Dad, Jessie! A boy's best friend, Look Dad, Woody! A boy's best friend!" It was really sweet to witness.
Lucy was a good sport and went on every ride except Screamin' which she was too small and the Tower of Terror which would have been just plain mean to make her go on. She was not happy with Goofy's Sky school so Dad took her on the carousel later to make up for that.
Everyone has their favorite rides but one of the best ones that everyone agreed on was the new "Soarin" ride. People literally were clapping at the end of it. It is very cool. Little Mermaid was another ride that is everybody's favorites and we LOVE the short line for that ride.
The three older kids and I went on the Tower of Terror. Waiting in line made the girls really nervous. Cameron and Julia both enjoyed the ride but in the middle of the ride Natalie screamed out to me "IS THIS RIDE ALMOST OVER??" She was not a fan. While we were at the Tower of Terror, Lucy and Dad hit up a Disney Jr. Show and ran into Lucy's all time favorite person! It was a dream come true. Lucy was smiling from ear to ear. She was the cutest thing ever.
After meeting Doc McStuffins, Lucy warmed up to meeting some characters, but others not so much.
During the first day of California Adventure, Natalie had fallen in love and knew what she wanted as her souvenir. It was a stuffed Dumbo and it seemed like everyone was carrying them around. I told her that was perfect and that we would get our souvenirs maybe the 2nd time we were in the Parks, not that day. These are the thoughts that haunt me. Finding Natalie's Dumbo was quite an ordeal and almost did not happen. I am happy to say that Dumbo was found and came home with us, but that is a story for a different day!
By mid afternoon, Mitch left us for awhile to go move all of our stuff from the Days Inn to the new hotel and get us checked in. We checked out the parade and enjoyed sitting in some sort of shade.
I was bright red pretty much the entire trip.
We brought our stroller so that we could store all our stuff in it. It was brilliant even if Lucy is a tad bit too big for it. When the park closed we headed to our new hotel, the Hyatt House. The kids loved that a 7-11 was across the street and became a fast tradition every night to go get a Slurpee.
Day 5: The Hyatt House, Room #227, 2 Queens, and a pull out sofa, the best breakfast ever!
This hotel had just opened, we were the first people to ever stay in our room. It was very, very clean and really nice. When we walked into the lobby that night the kids were like "this place is so fancy!" Mitch and I were just relieved that the air conditioner worked. They had a huge breakfast every morning. The kids would hurry down each morning to see what was new for the day. That might have been my favorite part, aside from the working air conditioner.
