Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day weekend was full of family and fun!  The weekend was packed with swimming (thank you Aunt Megan!!), cousins, hanging out, and of course food.

Lucy found a new lounge chair for her reading and ate about 2 bags of popcorn by herself.  She is what we call a "hefty" eater.

Mitch--doing that thing he does!

By the end of the weekend a few of us were tired!

Serious Readers

It seems like every time I turn around these girls are reading!  Julia has an enormous stack of books in her room that she is reading and she reads all of them at the same time.  She has certain books she reads at night, ones for the downstairs, ones for the bus, others for school, etc.

Cameron's Track Meet

Cameron has been running track at his school during zero hour.  On the last day he had a track meet at the High School against all the other elementary schools in the district.  It was very cute and very loud!

Pinewood Derby 2013

This year Mitch was a little less than excited to work on the pinewood derby car.  That was okay because Cameron had little interest in helping him make it.  Cameron said he didn't really care what it looked liked as long as it won.  HA!   It finally got done in the 12th hour and frankly I was just glad to see something put together.  The car actually turned out cute, not the speediest thing though.  It got 3rd place out of 4 every time it raced.  If you know Cam this was not acceptable and the competitor in him was TICKED.  The little pep talk about not getting mad if our car lost on the way to the church fell on deaf ears...I know you are shocked.

The defeated scout

Mom trying to convince him that it was not the end of the world and that he shouldn't have crinkled up his certificate in a ball just because he was mad.  It could have been worse, his car could have been the one scout whose car wouldn't even go all the way down the track.  Every year you say a little prayer hoping that it won't be you, because there is always that one!

By the way... I know you are jealous of my awesome scout shirt!!

Alas... Cam's car won overall funniest car and he had something to smile about.  Good thing his mom was on the voting committee!

Two down...one more pinewood derby to go!!

All Things Julia

Julia's class had a Readers Theater about the rainforest.  I was lucky enough to see the performance of The Great Kapok Tree.  She was so excited about this that she was talking about it for weeks before they put on the show.

I also was able to attend her 2nd grade music concert.  She and Jake are always standing next to each other because they are the tallest in their class.  Don't make the mistake of asking her if she thinks Jake is cute though because she will burst into tears 100% of the time!

Julia has one of the nicest primary teachers.  Her teacher had a class party at her home and they made homemade kites, ate cookies, painted a little vase, potted a little flower and played kickball.  Her class has nine kids in it, 6 boys and 3 girls!  Wow... what an awesome teacher!

H*O*T

The weather has been AMAZING.  I mean, so nice I don't even want to talk about it in fear that it might leave.  Yesterday it was a little hot, like 88 degrees outside.  Our neighborhood had a freak power outage right at dinner that lasted for about four hours, so we were forced to go out to eat.  I was devastated. :)  It has been a little hard to concentrate on school work when it feels like summer but we are enjoying this while it lasts!

Lucy has learned how to talk on the phone and say "baby." She has been carrying around a phone in one hand, a purse, and a baby in the other. It is really cute.  I could literally watch her play all day and be entertained.  It is sort of like when you see YouTube videos of baby pandas playing or drinking from bottles.  So cute you could watch for hours...

She also got a new hippo swimsuit.  I mean, when you can rock a hippo swimsuit then by all means you must have one!  Not too long after this picture was taken she "christened" the new suit by peeing it.

I took the younger girls to Lake Wilderness to see the ducks the other day.  They had so much fun we had to come back with the rest of the family the next day.  Lucy was going nuts when she saw the ducks.  I love her quacking noises!
